Rowe-Shivley pass gives Hilliard last second win
Hilliard showed it had a passing attack to go along with its running game Friday night by upsetting host Grandview on a last-play touchdown pass from Dave Rowe to end Duane Shively, 20-14.
It was the second pay dirt pass between the twosome. Minutes before, Rowe clicked on a 20-yard pass play that Shively lugged into the end zone for a Wildcat tally.
Halfback Dick Gray also got into the scoring act plunging over from the two-yard line.
All Hilliard’s scoring was done in the fourth period.
The Bobcats, who held a 2-0 advantage over the Hilliard aggregate in their series that started two years ago, struck first in the opening period when end Warren Katzenmoyer took a 20-yard pass from quarterback Dick Guyton.
Then Hilliard tightened up and didn’t allow the Bobcats to touch paydirt until the fourth period. Dick Riley added those points on a 70-yard pass play. The Bobcats took advantage of a Hilliard bobble after the opening kickoff to score their initial counter.
