Steve Baird, 1993 SNP Offensive Player of the Year
He didn’t do it all by himself, or course, but Hilliard quarterback Steve Baird was clearly one of the main leaders of the Wildcats this season as they chalked up a 9-1 regular season record, the ‘Cats best since 1978, and their very first state playoff berth. When defenses keyed on Baird, as Lancaster did in holding him to 82 rushing yards Saturday in the playoffs, he would go to the air, passing for 152 yards against the Golden Gales. During the regular season, he ran for 1,162 yards, threw for 973 and scored 17 touchdowns. Counting the playoff game, he has set single-season school records in rushing and total offense. Baird is the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division’s Player of the Year.
